Do dry cleaners clean area rugs? Some do, and some do not, because rugs are heavy, bulky and made from very different materials. Here is what to know about rug cleaning in Dallas-Fort Worth, what it costs at Top Hat Cleaners, and how to look after a rug between cleanings.
Can a dry cleaner clean an area rug?
It depends on the cleaner. A rug is not a garment, and the right method depends on its material, construction, size and condition. At Top Hat Cleaners we clean rugs and carpet pieces, and each one is assessed individually before we decide how to clean it. Very large, antique or delicate rugs are assessed individually, so call 214-348-0666 with the size and material and we will confirm what to expect.
How much does rug cleaning cost?
Carpet and rug cleaning at Top Hat Cleaners starts at $64.99. The final price depends on the size, material and condition of the rug, and you receive the final price after inspection and before any additional specialty work begins. See the rug and carpet cleaning page or the full price list.
How rug cleaning works with us
- Tell us about the rug. Call 214-348-0666 or book online, and have the size and material ready.
- Inspection. We check the material, construction, color and any stains before choosing how to clean it.
- Cleaning and drying. The rug is cleaned and dried thoroughly before it is returned.
- Return. Collect it from a store or have it delivered, subject to your area.
How often should an area rug be cleaned?
There is no single schedule. Rugs in busy rooms, homes with pets or children, and rugs that have been stained benefit from professional cleaning more often than a rug in a guest room. Between cleanings, vacuum regularly and rotate the rug so it wears evenly.
What you can do at home
- Vacuum regularly, using a setting that does not pull on fringe or delicate fibers.
- Blot spills right away. Press with a clean cloth instead of rubbing, which can push the stain deeper.
- Test before you treat. Try any cleaner on a small hidden spot first, because some dyes run.
- Avoid soaking. A rug that stays damp can develop odor or mildew, so make sure it dries completely.
- Check the material. Wool, silk, cotton and synthetic rugs are all cared for differently.
Can every stain or odor be removed?
Not always. Results depend on the material, the stain and how long it has been there. We assess each rug first and tell you what to expect before we start.
