Sarees, lehengas and wedding outfits are some of the most valuable things in a wardrobe, and some of the easiest to damage with the wrong cleaning. Here is what saree dry cleaning costs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, what affects the price, and how to look after silk and embellished garments between cleanings.

How much does saree dry cleaning cost in Dallas?

At Top Hat Cleaners, saree cleaning starts at $24.99 and lehengas and fancy gowns start at $39.99. Those are starting prices. Silk, heavy embroidery, zari, beadwork, designer construction and stains can increase the final price, so each garment is inspected before the price is confirmed.

What makes saree cleaning cost more?

  • Silk. Banarasi, Kanjivaram and other silks need more careful handling than everyday cotton.
  • Zari and embroidery. Metallic thread and decorative work add time and risk.
  • Beadwork and stones. Embellishments are checked and protected during cleaning.
  • Pleats and finishing. Pleated and structured garments take longer to finish.
  • Stains. Oil, food and turmeric (haldi) stains can need extra treatment.

Caring for a saree between cleanings

  • Air it out after wearing, then let it rest before folding so moisture and perfume can dissipate.
  • Avoid plastic covers. Store silk in soft cotton or muslin so it can breathe.
  • Refold from time to time. A saree left folded along the same lines for years can develop permanent creases or fabric weakness.
  • Keep perfume and hairspray away from the fabric, and apply them before dressing.
  • Avoid direct sun and damp during storage.
  • Do not machine wash silk or zari work, and do not use bleach.

What to do about a haldi or oil stain

Blot gently rather than rubbing, and avoid hot water or home treatments that can set a stain or affect the dye. Get the garment to a professional as soon as you can. Early treatment may improve the chance of reducing a stain, but results depend on the fabric, the dye, how old the stain is and what has already been tried, and complete removal cannot be guaranteed.

Wedding sarees, lehengas and preservation

After a wedding, many families have the saree or lehenga cleaned before storing it. We offer archival preservation boxes for long-term storage. For bridal gowns and veils, see our wedding dress cleaning page.
